Shining a light on Dry Eye Syndrome

Dry eye syndrome affects up to 20% of the population and can be a debilitating condition, making eyes dry, sore and inflamed as well as causing vision to fluctuate. Our modern lives, which include air conditioning, artificial light and almost constant electronic device use, also add to the problem. Get to know more about Dry Eye Syndrome and how it affects you.

At Outlook Eye Centre, we have invested in the very latest IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) technology for dry eye syndrome known as E-Eye. Developed in France and considered to be the leading treatment for dry eye, the E-Eye is not a laser treatment. It works to treat the eye’s meibomian glands which are responsible for producing the lipid (oily) layer of fluid which keeps the eyes moist. Because poor functioning of the meibomian glands is the main cause of dry eye syndrome, the IPL from the E-Eye stimulates the parasympathetic nerve to unblock meibomian glands and increase lipid production. This, in turn, lubricates the eye surface, reduces dry eye symptoms and greatly improves eye comfort.

Our patients here at Outlook Eye Centre who have used our E-Eye IPL are reporting very pleasing results following treatment. It is a really quick and painless procedure conducted by Shannon in the comfort of our practice. If you have been putting up with the discomfort of dry eyes, talk to us about our E-Eye IPL treatment regimen which we will tailor to your specific dry eye requirements.
