Can I Reuse My Frames When I Need New Lenses?

Pros and cons of reusing frames

When you find a good pair of frames it’s hard to let them go; they fit your face perfectly and have almost become a part of who you are! Fortunately you won’t need to give up your beloved frames next time your prescription changes - simply reuse your frames.

Can I reuse my frames?

In most cases you can reuse your frames when you need new lenses. Your optometrist will assess your frames to see whether they are in good enough condition to be able to take new lenses. Sometimes if they are in poor condition they may be at risk of breaking when new lenses are fitted.

Speak to your optometrist who will let you know what options you have.

Pros and cons of reusing frames

There are certainly benefits to reusing old frames, such as a good price saving (particularly if your prescription changes regularly) and not having to find a new pair that you love. However, it is important to be aware of the risks.

Older frames will usually not be under warranty, so there is always a risk when having new lenses fitted into them. New parts are not always available for older frames, so if they break you may end up having to fork out for a whole new pair. Your optometrist will run through these risks with your prior to having them made.
